Fresh Ideas For Your Home - Simple Style

Read Design

A clean and simple design style can make your life less stressful.

The look of your home can give you peace of mind and a sense of calm. Many of us have feelings of stress because we’re overwhelmed by the demands in our lives. What better goal to consider in your home decorating plans than to create a home environment that’s calming and relaxing, both on the eyes and on the soul.

Simple doesn’t mean plain or unattractive. Simple design can create a sophisticated, traditional, elegant look or a modern, minimalist feel. The bottom line is reducing chaos and over-decoration, and minimizing clutter and confusion.

  • Plan only one or two focal points per room, so you can really “see” the beauty, rather than having a hodge podge of color and design elements.

  • Limit the number of colors in your design and stick with gentle colors, rather than bold primary colors.

  • Make color transitions gentle. Avoid making too strong a statement between dark and light colors, such as black and white. (However, keep in mind that you may want energizing colors in a room; for example, in a kitchen or home office where you’d like to be engaged and active.)

Once you’ve created a simple, clean design, enjoy it! Allow yourself relaxing time to read a book or watch your favorite TV show, without answering the phone or responding to text messages. Spend time with your family or friends in a quiet way, without over planning your activities.

Achieving a calm and simple home environment can help you find peace of mind every day.

Luminette Privacy Sheers From Hunter Douglas

Luminettes for Sliding Glass Doors

We are noticing here in the Dallas - Fort Worth areas that more and more home builders are using large sliding glass doors to the patio. These large expanses of window definitely open up the indoors and gives a full view to the outside. We have seen these doors in Robson Ranch, Plano, Prosper and Frisco to name a few. We recently did a Luminette Privacy Sheer for a client in Southlake. This turned out to be one of our favorite installations!

Southlake Luminette

Our client called the Southlake store asking for help on what to do with their sliding glass door that opened up onto their large patio. They use their outside living area all the time - in the summer for fun in the pool and now for football watching parties. They certainly did want their privacy so the area needed some sort of covering. The design of their home is a soft transitional look with a lot of color in the accents - particularly their art and throw pillows. They were concerned that the only option would be the traditional vertical blinds because that was not the look they wanted. We showed them the Luminette Privacy Sheers by Hunter Douglas and that was it! They fell in love with the soft look that easily opens up the whole area and just as easily closes for privacy with some light or completely closes for full privacy.

What is a Luminette

Sheer inspiration...The joy of natural light, the benefit of UV protection.

Luminettes are a Privacy Sheer made by Hunter Douglas, the leader in Custom Window Fashions/ They offer subdued light with the privacy of a drapery. Fabric vanes rotate for privacy while controlling the light in a room. They can also open all the way for complete view to the outdoors. Luminettes are perfect for large windows and sliding glass doors, their superior UV protection meets both your decorating and practical needs.

The Southlake Design Plan

For our Southlake client we selected the Luminette in color Linen Flirt. We used the split stack option so the sheers open from the middle and the PowerView Motorization operating system for convenience. This way our client can easily open up their room to the patio. We also added side drapery panels to frame the windows and create a softening effect. Here we chose a fabric from Fabricut called Wow Lattice in color Slate. It has a large, neutral pattern that added the drama that was needed without a lot of color. This is one of our favorites! Soon we will be adding  a few throw pillows for their large sectional sofa in bright colors of orange, yellow, indigo and purple. These pillows will complement the room very well.

Vignette Modern Roman Shade

We recently helped a client in Trophy Club, Texas with the windows in her master bedroom. She wanted a transitional look, clean and simple, but with an element of exquisite design. Her walls were painted a medium, almost dark, gray so we suggested a the versatile Vignette Shade in the White Satin fabric with the top down - bottom up feature. She loved the idea of top down - bottom up shades because these windows were located on the side of her home and faced the street. This was the perfect solution to optimal privacy and light control and how our client says she leaves them in the pictured position all the time because she loves the way it looks.

Design Studio Roman Shades

Another Hunter Douglas Roman Shade option is the Design Studio. These shades are customized through pattern and texture. Expertly crafted to order, these soft Roman Shades offer elegant window coverings in more than 300 exquisite fabrics - from sophisticated designs, textures and stripes to simple solids in blends of cotton, linen, silk and synthetics.

Design Studio Roman Shades in North Dallas

We recently helped a couple with the remodel of their North Dallas home. This was a fun and challenging project with a few areas where we really had to give a lot of thought to the windows. In the family room and breakfast room the windows were removed and large sliding doors were installed to give a large open view to their patio. Our client wanted complete privacy at night, but keep the view during the day. Vertical shades were not the look of this home so we considered Luminette Privacy Sheers, but we lacked enough room on the sides to stack the fabric. We finally decided to use Design Studio Roman Shades and layer them with a custom fabric covered cornice board. This was the perfect look and solution for this home! For the shades we used a neutral fabric called Destination in color Ecru and the PowerView Motorized Operating System for convenience and a clean look with no hanging cords. The shades completely cover the doors and can stack all the way up under the cornice as if it is not there at all. Our client prefers the layered look and so has the controls set to stop in her desired position. For the cornice board, we used a textured fabric from Kravet that really tied the room together.

Our customer did love the Luminette Privacy Sheers though and we were able to use one in the upstairs game room. This is also powered by the PowerView Motorized Operating System.

Luminette Shade With PowerView In Robson Ranch

Recently we were fortunate enough to help a customer from Robson Ranch just off Highway 35W. It is a wonderful community for folks 55 and older. They have a couple of golf courses and have just about every activity you can imagine. Our client stopped by the Southlake store because they were moving in soon and needed ideas for their windows. Jeff met with them at their new home and listened to their thoughts. They live on one of the new golf courses that will be completed in 10 months, so they have a fantastic view and don't want to lose it. The dining room gets the most sun, but at different times of the day and the family room looks out onto the covered patio without much sun. Jeff suggested just using stationary drapery panels in the family room to frame the windows and add a pop of color while keeping the natural light and views. He selected a fabric from Fabricut that would coordinate with pillows that would go on their sectional sofa.

For the large sliding door in the dining room, he showed them the Luminette from Hunter Douglas in the Radiant White color. Needless to say, our client fell in love! These modern vertical shades offer ultimate light control with vanes that move left and right to deflect the suns rays. This shade was the perfect solution for style and function.

What Is A Luminette?

Luminettes are privacy sheers made by Hunter Douglas. They allow privacy with softened light so you can enjoy the ultimate light control and the privacy of soft draperies with these beautiful sheers. Fabric vanes rotate to control the light in the room. They are perfect for large windows and sliding glass doors and their superior UV protection meets both your decorating and practical needs.

Designer Roller Shades

For the 3 back windows in the dining room we selected Designer Roller Shades in an Organic White. We made 3 custom cornice board window treatments using a very colorful fabric from Kravet. This gave the windows a finished look and when the shades go up they disappear beneath them. This paired wonderfully with the Luminette. The best part was that we used PowerView Motorization for both the Roller Shades and the Luminette and included the hub for the whole home automation function.

We can help you with all of your window covering needs from shades, shutters and blinds to custom drapery, wallpaper and upholstery. Commercial or residential - no job is too big or too small!

Enhancing Light, Ensuring Privacy

Read Design

Natural light constantly changes and shifts through the day - as does what we expect from our windows. We want full sun one moment, low light the next, a clear view, then a discreet screen. Our sheers, shades,  blinds and shutters help you balance the light you want with the privacy you need.

At Hunter Douglas, privacy and light are interrelated. Our designs, in a wide array of materials, colors, and opacities let you control light effectively and customize your privacy throughout the day. And their sheers and other select styles are specially designed to diffuse and draw light deeper into a room helping to illuminate your home naturally.

Sunlight is warm and welcoming, but without ultraviolet (UV) protections over time it can fade and damage a room’s furniture, floor and décor. Hunter Douglas products offer ultraviolet protection to help counter these harmful effects.

Luminette Privacy Sheers

Privacy with softened light. Enjoy subdued light and the privacy of soft draperies on Luminette Privacy Sheers. Fabric vanes rotate for privacy while controlling the light in a room. Perfect for large windows and sliding glass doors, their superior UV protection meets both your decorating and practical needs.

Luminette Installation in North Dallas

We recently installed Luminette Privacy Sheers in a home in the Preston Hollow area of North Dallas.  This room is the customer‘s sitting room and study combination.  The windows are on the front of her home so she definatly needed privacy but she also loves light. The Luminette was a perfect solution for her 3 windows. The Radiant White Fabric looks beautiful against here soft gray walls. The whole look lends itself to a transitional style which is exactly what this customer wanted.

And because her furniture is positioned in front of the windows , we added the PowerView operational system with the PowerView App. This works beautifully especially in the later afternoon when the sure starts to come in those windows. She has her Luminette's set on a schedule so they open and close at preset times during the day - she never has to lift a finger!

Client Work: Soft Luminette Window Treatments For North Dallas Home

Read Design

Our Customer in Dallas, Texas bought a 1960’s ranch home in the North Dallas area. They did a lot of renovations to the Master Bedroom and Master Bath. They raised the ceiling and put in new larger windows. The customer wanted a soft treatment where she could keep the windows covered but could have light filtering in. The perfect solution was Hunter Douglas Luminette in an Alustra Collection fabric. This is a very sophisticated window treatment with an elegant fabric and the beautiful ripple fold top easily fits her transitional style. She can close the fabric vanes for privacy or keep them open for more natural light and a view. She used the split stack option so when she wants an unobstructed view, the panels will move to either side of the windows to frame them.

The vertical lines help draw the eyes upward, enhancing the tall ceilings. The shades by themselves are intended to give a finished look, however, we want to add some more color and pattern so we will be adding drapery panels and bedding to finish out the room.

Providing Services to all of these areas: Dallas, North Dallas, Plano, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell, Southlake, Denton, Keller, Roanoke, Benbrook,  Westlake, Fort Worth, Lewisville, Grapevine, Trophy Club, The Colony, Frisco, Prosper, Celina, Savannah, Aubrey, McKinney, Allen, St. Paul, Wylie, Sachse, Rockwall, Rowlett, Lucas, Parker, Melissa, Anna, Fairview, Heath, Garland, Richardson, Irving, Las Colinas, University Park, Highland Park, Kessler Park, Euless, North Richland Hills, Colleyville, Flower Mound, Corinth, Arlington, Little Elm, Hurst, Saginaw, Haltom City, Bedford, Watauga, Haslet and many more!

Think Marble for a Marvelous Addition to Your Home

Marble adds a classic and elegant touch.

Marble is a natural material, created when sedimentary rock has been subjected to great heat and pressure from the earth over many years, resulting in a durable and beautiful stone. And marble has been used as a decorative and durable material almost since the beginning of civilization.

So many beautiful looks in marble are available - from the simplest, pure white to wildly colored patterns of blue, gold, green and more. Some choices even have a sparkle. Carrara marble from Italy is the most popular today, with its white background and greyish veins.

Marble is most often used in kitchens and baths, for flooring, countertops, showers and sometimes even walls. But there's so much more you can use marble for. Think hearths and fireplace surrounds, table tops, small pieces of furniture and even small decorative pieces like cutting boards, Kleenex boxes, lamps and coasters.

Add a touch of refinement and sophistication to your home this fall with marvelous marble!

Abstract Art - It's an engaging element that starts a conversation

According to the famous Tate Gallery in London, abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead uses shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

Much of the artwork that's being created today is abstract art, so it's an easy element to add to your home. It can be fashioned from most any medium, from water color to oil paint, sculpture to collage, and more. It comes in almost any size and shape. Abstract art can be serene or edgy, colorful or monochromatic.

What's fun about abstract art is that you can make up your own mind about what it shows. Even though the art doesn't explicitly portray reality, often the brushstrokes or composition show movement, energy and emotion. Abstract art creates a feeling.

Add a piece of abstract art this fall. It will pull a room together beautifully and start a conversation.

  • Add autumn accents and Halloween decorations to your home, with pumpkins, gourds, fall leaves, earth-toned wreaths and more.
  • Display chrysanthemums and autumn-hued orchids to bring fall alive in your rooms.
  • As the weather cools, treat your family to fall comfort foods like savory soups and stews, apple pie and hot chocolate.
  • Start planning for holiday guests by adding a coat of paint in guest bedrooms and baths.
  • Order translucent window coverings that let in more precious light as the days grow shorter. Silhouette® Window Shadings or Luminette® Privacy Sheers may be the perfect choice.
  • Get ready for cooler, fall evenings with warm cashmere or wool throws set out on your couches.
  • Have your fireplaces cleaned and inspected for winter enjoyment.
